Iran Says It Might Return to American Atomic Discussions if Approached with 'Dignity' and 'Honor'
Tehran is prepared to resume nuclear negotiations with the United States on condition that it is treated with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has stated.
The Iranian diplomat said exclusively dialogue produced results, and revealed fresh requests had originated from go-betweens to restart negotiations with the US government. He claimed Iran possessed no undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran was not yet able to authorize the International Atomic Energy Agency to access bombed nuclear sites for security reasons.
Walking a Complex Route
The foreign minister is navigating a difficult route since Iran wishes not to appear to be proceeding from a position of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged more powerful defensively and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.
He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an inalienable right to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the stalemate in the earlier negotiations.
Earlier Talks Unexpectedly Terminated
The prior phases of talks between the United States and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and acrimonious termination on 12 June when Israel, with US support, targeted Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that culminated with the American leader asserting the facilities had been eliminated. Afterward, Western states exercised their right to reinstate international penalties, but Iran asserts they have not had a significant effect.
Ideal Resolution Offered
Tehran representatives said they felt they had reached a "perfect agreement" to the enrichment issue in previous talks, when it was decided an Iran-based consortium with US participation could process nuclear material. Each party would have been able to claim victory since home-based processing would have continued and the US could be certain that Iran's enrichment initiative was exclusively peaceful.
It had not been decided in the talks that American atomic experts could function within Iranian territory, but that was a logical implication of the partnership suggestion. Diplomats stated three times they had reached agreement with Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff only for the agreement to fall apart due to "opponents in the US".
Current Status
Iranian officials declared the partnership proposal was now off the table, but it seems quite possible the suggestion could be resurrected in various formats if talks reopen.
The US president recently stated he had been obtaining communications that Iran sought to reopen negotiations, but privately Tehran representatives state they are not yet obtaining consistent overtures from America either straightforwardly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as Qatar, Egypt, Oman and the Saudi kingdom. The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been accused of non-responsiveness in the aftermath of Trump's direct instinctive approach, but Iran asserts diplomacy is not part of a performance.
Diplomatic Stance
In his remarks to the forum, aimed to depict the US as a dominant force that abuses the idea of worldwide standards, the foreign minister said the 12-day war showed the dispute could not be settled by military means. He stated the strikes commenced with a Washington's ultimatum for an complete Tehran capitulation and ended with an unconditional call for a ceasefire.
Iran is certain the initial Israeli attacks were executed with full US knowledge and cooperation, making faith challenging to reestablish.
Diplomacy Stays the Ultimate Resolution
The foreign minister declared: "It was not Iran that had abandoned negotiations; it was the United States and the European states that had always sought to enforce their will during the discussions. Negotiations can still be active and stays the final answer to address disagreements, but its requirements, regulations and fundamentals must be followed."
"Provided that they address to the Iranian people with the approach of dignity and respect, they will receive a answer in the equivalent tone."
Recovery and Reconstruction
In what is characterized by Iranian officials as the battle of recovery and recovery, Araghchi stated he was certain Iran's defence capabilities "have significantly improved than preceding 13 or 14 June of this year. Every aspect of our defense have been reestablished. We gained numerous insights from this war; we have come to know our personal limitations and the shortcomings of the enemy."
He stated: "We effectively endured this conflict. Our enrichment knowledge, which they planned to obliterate, continues to exist. The installations and machinery, if destroyed, will be reconstructed; what is crucial is the determination of the citizens of Tehran and then the national cohesion that they aimed at, but did not succeed to shatter. The citizens of Tehran have developed more resilient, more integrated, and more endorsing of the leadership and the country in the face of this assault."
